Top 10 Ways to Be a Rockstar This Semester

With the new year comes a new semester. That means new classes, new professors, and of course, a new workload. To be successful, you’ll need to develop new habits in the months ahead. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!

Top 10 Ways to Be a Rockstar This Semester:

1. Be kind to yourself! Have you ever heard the saying that you can’t pour from an empty cup? It’s so true. So, find time for the activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul.

2. Set boundaries. Prentis Hemphill said, “Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.” Set boundaries and stop sacrificing your well-being in order to avoid disappointing others.

3. Learn to say “NO.” When faced with any choice, take a moment to evaluate what saying yes will cost you. If the costs are too overwhelming, then your answer must be no.

4. Write your semester goal somewhere visible. Think: the bathroom mirror, the refrigerator door, or your car’s steering wheel. You could even make a small vision board for a visual representation of your intentions. Just make sure that you see the goal every single day!

5. Commit to morning affirmations that support that goal. Daily affirmations are a powerful tool to manifest your desires. Find [or write your own] affirmations and speak them confidently into the mirror each morning.

6. Call up an accountability partner. Schedule regular check-ins with a friend to share the scoop on how you are emotionally and mentally planning for a rockstar semester. And then, hold each other accountable to those plans.

7. Celebrate every win. Positive psychology suggests that celebrating wins, no matter how big or small, keeps us engaged in our personal journeys while instilling greater self-confidence along the way. Celebrate wins daily!

8. Stretch your body. Flexibility is directly linked to lower stress and better posture. Take a few minutes while dinner is cooking or while you’re in the shower to relieve some of that tension in your neck, back, and shoulders.

9. Find ways to encourage others. Cheering on others is a wonderful way to build connection and community, both of which are integral parts of your student experience.

10. Remember you are human. It’s simple: nothing beats a failure but a try.

Now, go be the rockstar I know you are! And if you need me, you know where to find me!
