Happy Pride 365
If you attend any Pride parade or festival across the country, you’ll see hundreds of organizations, schools, and companies showing their visibility and support for the LGBTQ community.
However, though many states have recently started to open back up, many Pride celebrations are going virtual for another year with little to no in-person events.
So, if this is usually how you show your support for the LGBTQ community, what’s your next move?
Here’s a hint: Supporting the LGBTQ community isn’t limited to pride parades in June.
I believe this is the point where many well-intentioned allies drop the ball. Not because they don’t care, but because they don’t know how to show up in other ways.
The resources and tools for you to be a powerful and purposeful ally are right at your fingertips. There are many ways to be an ally in action, but for sake of this conversation, I encourage you to start with one: Research. What are the real issues facing the LGBTQ community? And how can you help elevate the voices of the community beyond June?
Visibility and rainbow stickers are great, but we must go beyond performative allyship to make a real difference.
Remember, it’s not just one day or one month, the LGBTQ community needs your visibility and support. It’s a journey and a year-round commitment. It’s Pride 365.
